Maria Stangret Kantor, malarka, absolwentka ASP w Krakowie, współpracowniczka Tadeusza Kantora i aktorka w jego Teatrze Cricot 2, członkini Stowarzyszenia Artystycznego Grupa Krakowska, zadebiutowała indywidualną wystawą w sztokholmskiej Galerii Brinken w 1962 roku. Pokazywała swoje prace na wielu ekspozycjach indywidualnych w kraju i zagranicą, m.in. w Muzeum Narodowym w Krakowie, warszawskiej Zachęcie, Galerii Krzysztofory, Galerii Starmach, Galerii 86, Galerii Muzalewska, Kunsthalle w Baden-Baden, Galerie de France w Paryżu, Galerie d'Arts Contemporains w Orleanie oraz zbiorowych jak np. Présences Polonaises w Centre Georges Pompidou w Paryżu czy Dialog w Moderna Museet w Sztokholmie. Związana z Galerią Foksal od początku jej istnienia (połowa lat 60.), prezentowała tu regularnie swoje obrazy na wystawach indywidualnych i zbiorowych, a także brała udział w organizowanych w ramach Foksalu happeningach i akcjach artystycznych.

Mieszka i pracuje w Krakowie oraz w Hucisku - domu wzniesionym według projektu Tadeusza Kantora z przeznaczeniem na muzeum malarskiej twórczości obojga artystów.

Na przełomie lat 50. i 60. uprawiała malarstwo inspirowane doświadczeniami informelu. W latach 60. wykonała cykl dzieł pt. Pejzaże kontynentalne prowadzących do zakwestionowania możliwości malarstwa. Następstwem tych działań był szereg prac parakonceptualnych powstałych w latach 70. (Szachy, Tablice, Gra w klasy). Istotne miejsce w jej twórczości zajmują prace, realizowane od lat 80., tworzone w hołdzie postaciom ze świata sztuki, literatury, historii, takim jak m.in.: Jesienin, Anna Frank, Kantor etc.

W roku 2002 staraniem Galerii 86 ukazała się "powieść bez końca" pt. Pamiętnik dziadka, którą artystka pisała metodą automatycznego zapisu od 1962 roku.

Hommage à Danił Lider jest dziełem które zostało zrealizowana po raz pierwszy w krakowskiej Galerii Starmach w 2005 roku.

Maria Stangret Kantor, a paintress, the graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, a collaborator of Tadeusz Kantor and an actress in his Theatre Cricot 2, a member of the Cracow Group Artistic Association, debuted with a one-artist exhibition at the Brinken Gallery in Stockholm in 1962. She presented her works at numerous one-artist exhibitions at home and abroad, for example at the National Museum in Cracow, the Zachęta Gallery in Warsaw, the Krzysztofory Gallery, Starmach Gallery, Gallery 86, Muzalewska Gallery, Kunsthalle in Baden-Baden, Germany, Galerie de France in Paris, Galerie d'Arts Contemporains in Orleans, as well as at many group exhibitions, for example during the Présences Polonaises at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Dialogue at Moderna Museet in Stockholm. Being connected with the Foksal Gallery since the beginning of its existence (that is since the mid-sixties), she has presented her pictures on regular basis at one-artist as well as group exhibitions there. Moreover, she participated in many happenings and artistic actions that took place at the Foksal Gallery.

She lives and works in Cracow and in Hucisko - at the house that was built according to Tadeusz Kantor's plans and devoted to be a museum of painting output of the both artists.

At the turn of the fifties she practised painting that was inspired by the experiences of the informel art. In the sixties she made the cycle of works entitled Continental Landscapes which were leading to questioning the possibilities of painting. In result of such activity many para-conceptual works appeared in the seventies (The Chess Set, Boards, and Hopscotch). Painting-sculptural compositions created in memory of some well-known figures from the world of the arts, literature and history, including Esenin, Anna Frank, Kantor, etc. are characteristic for her art that has been realised since the eighties.

Thanks to the endeavour of the Gallery 86 her never-ending story appeared in 2002 under the title Grandfather's Memoir. It was a journal written by the artist with the use of automatic recordings since 1962.
